Happy Mother's Day

Son R's gift was an ultra cute bookend doxie!
The gardenias from Claire, who gave them to me on Friday were still giving off their fragrance.

And Penny gave me an ultra cute pose.

Daughter M took us to The Veranda at the Kahala Hotel, which was a wonderful treat for all.

The chandeliers brought back memories of my mom who loved them because they look like colored sugar crystals.
We came often when the Curry Bar was offered here.  Three different curries with their rices and condiments were served buffet style - Indian, Thai, and Japanese.   After they stopped this, we only came occasionally to Hoku's or Tokyo Tokyo to dine, or to weddings.
I had forgotten how relaxing it was in this lobby.
Friend Claire began telling me about how she and her friend loved Arancino and The Veranda, so I was delighted when M suggested we come here for Mother's Day dinner.

From the Lounge Menu, I ordered the Hamachi Poke.
So fresh.

R had the Tomato Salad which was very nice.

M shared the Fried Chicken with R.  The French Fries were deliciously crisp and hot.

Penny behaved very well.  Not a whimper nor cry for food.

My Tempura (avocado, asparagus, shrimp ) was served hot and crunchy.

R's Fish was nice too.

The kids had the Wagyu hamburger sliders.

And then the sweet part...

R had the Macadamia Nut Praline Crunch and Camomile tea.

M's Hoku's Dark Chocolate
Coulant.

My Hibiscus Pavlova.

When the ambience is so breezy and casual, and the food and service are wonderful you can't help but have a great evening.

There was entertainment from 7:30.

Thank you for a great day.

Shimizu Voice Spring Showcase, 2017

                                  Shimizu Voice Spring Showcase, 2017.

Can't believe it's over, especially since the days leading up to it were full of nervousness, stress, exciting anticipation and practice.

Getting ready.
Claire in the center opened the show with
"Everything Old Is New Again"
Colette helped everyone with their stage makeup, which was a blessing.  She is such an accomplished vocalist, singing with power and beauty and smashing costumes.
Claire's dress was made for her by a  designer in Paris who does dancing costumes.  Claire loves butterflies because they represent free spirits.

The theme was Broadway.
Hawaii Balloons did the stage decorations which was put up in 15 minutes.
Wish I had more photos of other performers who were amazing!
All ages, many styles and languages, comedy mixed with drama-it was a fun Shimizu Voice recital.

"Kanashii Sake"
Singing to the Scotch Glass about why can't it take away the sadness of a lost love.
We don't have photos yet of the number R and I did together,
which was Rawhide, the version from the movie "Blues Brother".

Denise and Janie.
Wonderful and supportive friends always.

Hey, there's Les in the center next to Dr. Isao and Jay!
We were so happy to have him there, too.

Tevita Apina, who wore many hats- singer, dresser, and most of all, Master of Ceremony with Amy.

Michel's with Les, Penny

Michel's always satisfies with it's views and ambience!
So nice to see the peaceful evening beach scene once in awhile.
The tropical sun sets in a flash-a green one if you're lucky.  I have never seen the green flash.

Meanwhile, by our table , our server, makes their famous Lobster Bisque.

This is the first time I've tried their Apple Tart with Cinnamon ice cream.  Mmm.

A very pleasant evening with friends and especially, Les, from Tokyo.  R's brother is looking good, as usual.

Somewhere in all that jumble of blankets is a dog.  Lately she likes to burrow under and sleep in such places.

So tired, that she can't even open her eyes fully to say, "what do you want."
