Precious lady

One day, you look around you and realize that as you grew older, so did the people who knew you  when you were born, until very few are left.

Today I visited one of those precious few whose husband and my father had met before the War, when they were about 15,  went to the same college in Indiana, drove and worked all over during vacations and had many adventures together with their friends, before returning to Honolulu.

They continued with their adventures, taking their wives and helpless infants  over dangerous hiking trails above Manoa Falls and ocean cliffs, boating and camping.

Today, only she is left to recount these incidents, and to my happy surprise she did so in a strong voice, with humor and clarity.
She is recuperating after a hip operation and undoubtedly will bounce back to her former self in no time.

Penny's mouth has finally grown enough to go around this toy from Aunty Liz and she loves it.
