Koko Crater Botanical Gardens, briefly

Monday, the 4th, everywhere seemed to be crowded with people enjoying the sunshine of this holiday, including the area around Sandy Beach.
It looks deserted but there were surfers and tents and beachcombers everywhere.

Since we were driving around the Hawaii Kai area we decided to seek out the Koko Crater Botanical Gardens.
We played at the Hawaii Kai golf course many times, but never noticed that it adjoins the entrance to the Gardens.

After driving in a bit, there is a small parking lot, which happened to be empty today.
There was a nice ranger there too.

But of course, the sign says "no dogs" and we had Penny, so R decided to wait in the car with her while we took a short look around.
Well, it's a 2-mile loop trail which takes about 1.5 hours so I just enjoyed the bougainvilleas and plumeria grove at the entrance.

We will certainly return without Penny and hike on to see the plants from Africa, Madagascar, the Americas and Hawaii.
