Skagway and Glacier Park

R making himself at home on Main Street, Skagway.

Out for a drive from the past.

I look like a frontiersman myself.
Inside one of the Saloons.

After a nice walk around town, about 30 minutes, we head back "home".
Leave Skagway, 20:42

Entering Glacier Bay 5:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The "dirty" frontal areas of some of the glaciers.

View from the Library and computer area, next to the Explortions Cafe, that served hot chocolate.

Bits of ice that had fallen off glaciers.

The blues of the new ice in the little crevices are beautiful.

Beautiful colored water.  Reminded me of the lakes around Lake Louise in Canada.
View from our room.
Glaciers had names like Lamplugh, Johns Hopkins, Margerie, Grand Pacific.

Cruise remembrances

View of our docked ship from our hotel, the Pan Pacific.

Very comfortable room, lots of closet space and enough hangers!

Separate shower which we didn't use because the water splashed out onto the floor.

Shower in the tub was more user friendly.

Sailing out of Vancouver.
Aaaahh.

Loved Canaletto Italian restaurant.

The unfinished bottle was brought to us the next night at the Pinnacle Restaurant.

Room service breakfast which we tried once.   More fun to go to the Vista and talk with the Indonesian waiters.

Abundance of crisp and clean air and water and beautiful islands.
Entered Juneau on a Tender, which was fun.   Zuiderdam didn't look so shiny from below at sea level.

Juneau and a tour of Mendenhall Glacier Park,  a  salmon hatchery and town.

Peak salmon season.  From a trail at the Park you could see many poor ragged fish resting in the clear waters.  The stream was filled with colorful stones.

Aaahh.
On the way to Skagway.

Yearly naginata demo at Byodoin

This year's Obon Festival was even bigger than last year's.  Tents and more chairs were added along with colorful lanterns.

Almost the same keikogi (practice outfits).  Naginata on the left and Aikido on the right.

Preparing to go on.

We're next

After a great demo and before picking up Penny…
relaxing at Manoa's Tokoname.
We did miss good sushi rice during our trip!

Just got back!

What I loved about Vancouver (besides the friendly people)
Cute dogs

A library that seems a pleasure to visit

24 hour bakeries!

Greenery all over.  (The canopy walkway at UBC's Botanical  Gardens)

A four o'clock Jazz Vesper at St. Ã…ndrew's-Wesley United Church  (Each week there is a new group performing.  Liturgist was Rev. Dan Chambers, acting Co-Lead Minister)

Interesting restaurants, big and small.   This was Bellagio.

The weekly Opera Buffet at the Pan Pacific Hotel.

News from SF and Tokyo

Baby Sunn at Daddy's exhibit in San Francisco, with CL and Liz.
Wish we could've been there too.

Les with Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, in Tokyo.

Undoubtedly a good speech, Les.

A day in Palama

Our last singing lesson at this building today.   We will miss coming here!

And talking to Honey.

And MiuMiu.
This morning I was in Palama and here I am again at night.
Higashi Honganji Bon Dance.
Denise and Sharon.  We missed Janie.

Lacey and Sharon were at the taiko and Kathy sang, although they did get in a lot of dancing too.
