Maui no kaoi. Kahului, Aria's, Iao Valley, Maui Winery

Early one morning in Kahului.
Lovely wall painting.
We had breakfast at Aria's.

Luckily we arrived early.

After breakfast we walked around the little town.  There was an
old fashioned theater, in a historic building, which today, being Sunday was  being used to hold Church services.

Next stop was lovely
Iao Valley.

Quiet town with
interesting stores where you
can sew shoes and buy
rocks and minerals.

King Kamehameha
defeated the King of Maui
here.  The latter fled to Oahu
and was defeated at
Nuuanu Pali.

Humans look so tiny (by the
lone coconut palm) at one of
the lookouts.

According to M,  it is better to come when there is a light rain because then the many waterfalls along the cliffs are spectacular.

Maui Winery at Ulupalakua Ranch

At 1800 ft elevation in volcanic soil,  the Tedeschi Vineyards
grow syrah, chenin blanc, chardonnay, malbec and viognier.
They also crush Maui Gold fresh pineapples to get the juice to make their pineapple wine.

Wine tasting.

On the grounds of the winery.  We missed seeing the vineyards.  Next trip.
Jade vine flowers are beginning to grow.
