Ushering Billy Elliot, new Tokoname

The sunset was beautiful from the Diamond Head Theater where we were volunteer ushers the other night.

Fun British musical, with music by Elton John,  that won 10 Tony Awards.  (It opened in Broadway in 2008).                                    The biggest challenge, according to the director John Rampage, was finding a boy to play Billy Elliot and luckily he found Aaron Ostroff, who has ballet and acrobatic training.
It was our first experience in ushering but we were given good directions on what to do, and were able to watch the show in designated rows for volunteers.

Other plays coming up this season.

Fellow volunteer.  We passed out programs.
R and her husband ushered and were responsible for the side doors.

Earlier in the week we dined at Tokoname at their new location.
(They moved from Manoa SC last month). Everything on the menu was the same, and many of the servers were familiar faces.

The bar.

There was Japanese seating and a sushi bar.

Even the Mu Sake sampler was the same.   I can taste the difference between the daiginjo Mu (slightly smoother and lighter) and the ginjo Katana if taken together.  I also like the nigori Snow Maiden, (sweeter and thicker).

Agedashi tofu and Hamachi, Maguro and Ikura nigiri sushi.

After dinner we went to Shirokiya to have our favorite soybean shaved ice.  It's always nice to have something icy and sweet after fish.  In Japan dessert would probably be a piece of cold fruit,  which would be healthier!
