Sunday scenes

No,  these photos are not of Ireland nor the moors.   Daughter M took these early this morning on Haleakala.

And yes, sunny Waikiki Beach.

Your Kitchen on 10th Ave. in Kaimuki.   Take out lunches and shaved ice with real fruit juice syrups.

Outdoor seating.
R had a bowl of azuki milk ice.
Penny's in the shadow somewhere.

Small mango haupia and Penny.

sleepy saturday

Pearl Ridge Farmer's Market.
Arrived later than usual so parking was hectic, but we got Penny's Raw Dog food.
Poor Penny was sick last night so we didn't get much sleep, but she's fine now.  (I'm still sleepy)

Went to Taj Clubhouse at Ward Warehouse and saw Tiki and her daughter in their store.  Such cute designs, like the "Cheery Blossoms" on this t shirt.
It's always fun to do Zumba classes with her and her daughter and sisters.

New menu items at Mariposa, Penny's new shirt

After our satisfying voice lesson, we did some chores and had a late lunch at Mariposa.
There was a brand new lunch menu.

The popovers were a bit overdone.  We agreed Halekulani's ones are still pretty good.
A new item:  Moroccan lentil and turkey ball soup.  Nicely spiced.

Another new item: Tomato and watermelon salad with avocado, feta, olives and greens.

Both the soup and salad were low calorie (280 or so) so we shared a chocolate malt dessert.

Visited Penny's vet's office and got more Sentinel (Heartworm meds) and a finger brush for her teeth.

Then off to pick up Penny.
Her best friend of the day was Diesel, the French Bulldog, who had already gone home.

Each dog usually receives a "report card" of  their day.

Penny's new tshirt.  Sorry girl.  I know you're an au naturelle type pup.

Michinoku, Snow Factory

We had a nice lunch with Grandma, P and M at Michinoku,  where these cute fusen (paper balls) were hanging.
Gma and I had the usual salmon teishoku

Grandma looked nice in her shirt.  Not bad for a 95 year old!

M over on Maui told us about Snow Factory.   It's like the  Hong Kong dessert we used to like at a place on Beretania St., but with a more variety of choices (like one with bacon sprinkles)

R had the taro, azuki, mochi and coconut jelly with condensed milk.
The texture of the milky ice is like snow so it's good to have a chewy or crunchy accompaniment.

Best baby kale

Thanks to Janie and Dr. Isao's garden and generosity, we have tender and fresh baby kale and sweet, crisp cucumbers.  Good enough to eat raw, they are wonderful in juices too.

A delicious lunch.  The Calamanci fruit are from their garden also.

After zumba lunch at Pho Viet in the Manoa SC.

Proprietress Queenie.

Pho Viet on the 2nd fl., the most recent in a series of different restaurants.

Later in the afternoon we went to  Wards Warehouse  to look for a seat belt harness for Penny.  Pets will be fined $75 if not secured by a harness to the seat belt.
We will miss Wards Warehouse and it's  easy going ambience and many unique boutiques.

Outdoor food court

After a busy day,  Ham and Cheese and an Onion and Pinenut Salad at Chez Kenzo.  Always a pleasure to talk with Steve who has a dog named Sunshine and a cat named Star.

Pets in the City.
There's that teeny Chihuahua with a strong personality.

Cats, Newtown Park

                                       We love cats too!
Okaki and Yokan
There is a Japanese  blog by a pro cat photographer who crazy loves cats.  He and his family live with 8 of them and he photographs them lovingly.

He named his cats after desserts.
Okaki: rice cracker
Yokan: azuki bean dessert

Ishiguro, Ayako, an illustrator, did this funny caricature of Okaki and Yokan.

Newtown Park
This morning we took Penny to register her at Art's Obedience School in Aiea.  It is $25 for 11 weeks.  The new session will start April 13th.  Can't wait.

The park is large and quiet (except for dogs barking)

On the way, we passed this helpful dog .

Tom,  who did our orientation and is an instructor, has this cutest and most well behaved Pomeranian, ever.

Penny being fitted by Tom for her first choke collar.  It sounds mean, but if the training is conducted joyfully the dog will look forward to putting it on as a signal for fun, says Tom.  His Pom is happy when she sees it .

This session's classes practicing for their graduation.

After class cool down.

Kaahele Street.
So wide and quiet.  (Except there was a motorcycle group that  passed through.)
Tom said to come before classes to walk the dogs  to calm them down.  It will be a pleasure in such a nice neighborhood.

Saturday

There's Penny on Pets in the City's Facebook page!   It says according to the AKC dachshunds are tenth in popularity in the US.   I also read somewhere that Penny is a popular name for this breed.  (Her real name is Penelope)

Here we are at Gazen again.  Creatures of habit.   I asked if they were out of martini glasses and they don't have any due to attrition and no replacements.  Guess sake, beer and wine are more popular.

We tried the mozzarella and watercress kaki age (tempura).    Could only eat half, but it was good.

Crispy mahimahi is always good and hot.   The slow cooked oxtails were a first for us.
Luckily R went to the gym and I to naginata practice.

So many others were waiting for the sunset.
