Newtown Disobedience class

With never ending hope, we enrolled her in another session at Art's Obedience Classes.  Actually the same beginner's basic class that she never graduated from.
She barked just as loudly (experience from the doggie day cares), but not as much.
Resisting commands?  Oh yes.  But this time she knew what they were and wouldn't do them.
Sit, Down, heel.

After class at Newtown golf range.
Unfortunately too late for French Toast.

All that disobeying exhausted her.
She could barely crawl away from her water bowl.
Nah.  She was chewing on the stuffing from her toy.

Naginata, Iyo Udon

Naginata today.
Sensei is always beautifully dignified.
We are practicing every week for the demonstration at Byodoin in August.
We have been doing demonstrations here for so many years.
From last year, they expanded the program to include koto and bon dancing, among others.

It's a pleasure because it's outdoors and the scenery is beautiful, with the temple gong ringing (by visitors) in the background.

New Restaurant at the Mall
Its specialty is the wheat noodle Udon, rather than Soba, the buckwheat noodle.

Considering its location (not in the Makai Market food court, or Shirokiya's food court), it was surprising that it has a cafeteria style setup.

The beef and egg udon, with green onion and  ginger add ons.  There are also sides of tempura, chicken, rice balls.  I like that there was iced green tea at the fountain.

wednesday

Went to pick up our packet for our Alaskan Cruise and stopped in at Tanaka Saimin for some Wun Tun Min with Teriyaki beef- Hawaiian comfort food.

Still have music like "Walk Like a Man" going through my head from yesterday's movie that L and I saw - Jersey Boys.
Also, "Master of the House," from Les Miserables that R and I went to on Sunday.

Penny's bad day (thursday)

First of all, Penny had an appointment at the Vet's for her vaccinations.  She had two.
And she needs to take her medication.  The new version of Sentinel (heart worm, fleas and tapeworms), and Provioable, a probiotic to help her digestion.
Because she hid the finger brush for her teeth, I had to get a new one.

Then we left her at Poi Dogs.  The twin dogs are the owner's.
Not many dachshunds today.

We went to Nuuanu Memorial to ask about the upkeep of the grass around the headstones.  They were very courteous about attending to it.

Uncle's for a light ahi sandwich and then to Poi Dog to pick up a noisy Penny.

Finally at home, but then she gets a bath (which she dislikes)

Who needs a towel.  Just slide all over the carpet and cushions.

Silent treatment.
Good!

Penny is home again

Picked up Penny  this morning.

Here we are.
She got to sleep next to the overnight human so hopefully it was a good experience for her.

Are we home yet?

Ahh.  Nothing like your own bed.

Les Miserables by New Hope Youth Performing Arts Center

Today we left Penny at Poi Dogs for her first overnight stay.  All these dogs (15) will be with her tonight, as well as a staff member.  What an experience it will be for Penny.

Now we can go to enjoy Les Miserables, put on by New Hope Youth Performing Arts Center on Sand Island.
Sold out performances!

The sets, props and costumes looked  authentic and the cast
swept us away to early 1800 France and the people who lived in those tumultuous times.

Pastor Wayne Cordeiro was Jean Valjean and our own Craig Shimizu Sensei was a very villainous though comical Monsieur Thenardier.   We found ourselves looking forward to his appearances to provide comic relief to a sad play where so many characters suffer and die.

Bravo, Craig Sensei.

Penny

Here are some toys that should not be touched.

Especially this one.
It has the loudest squeak.

Relaxing at the Honolulu Museum of Art

It has been awhile since I visited the Honolulu Museum of Art and since R was golfing, I left Penny to play at Pets In the City and relaxed for a couple of hours here.

There were some prints from the early 1900's  in the Japanese collection.

The serene Chinese Courtyard

Interesting little exhibit called Natural, Unnatural and Supernatural.

My favorite Renaissance gallery

We used to call these flowers Mountain Orchids.
They grew wild in the mountains around Manoa Valley.

A new addition to this courtyard in front of the Indian exhibit Hall.   A Coffee bar, at the left of the window.

Of course I had to try it.  French Press Island Coffee and chocolate chip cookie.

Voluptuous Indian carvings.

Parked under the Rainbow Shower tree in the parking lot.
The Golden and Rainbow Shower trees are in full bloom now.

The petals of the Golden Shower flowers fall like confetti, much like those of the Sakura (cherry).

R and his friends eat after golfing at the popular restaurant at Mililani Golf Course,  and he brought home their Pork Adobo Fried Rice for me.   Pudgie loved a bit of the egg and Penny gobbled some of the pork and rice with her regular food.

Happy Father's Day

Cafe Laufer for Father's Day breakfast.

Tempting pastries, but-we declined.   Of course we had buttermilk biscuit and waffles with our breakfast.

Picked up Penny at Aloha Dog, and went for a drive to the top of St Louis Drive.

Wa'ahila State Park

The silence was heavy, but there was a sprinkling of cheery bird song.

Looking down onto Manoa Valley.

Hiking trails start here.

Driving down the heights,  the back of Diamond Head and the ocean spread into view.
Stopped to get guava juice shaved ice with ice cream  and shared some with Penny.

Father's Day dinner was not a leisurely one, with Penny and Pudgie both making their presence known.

Bottomless Penny was not content with her share of the steak,  and kept pestering us with her cute eyes and nasal whine.
(She did not get anything, Dr.Vet)

Pudgie just wanted to sleep in R's hand (luckily the left one).
Good night!
