Good lunch days

It's been awhile so it was fun to have lunch with A. again at the Prince Hotel the other day.
We opted for the curry lunch instead of the buffet.  Both the seafood and beef curries were very good.

Still happily clueless
We go back all the way to Tokyo expat days.  She showed me her new iphone6.
 (I thought I already explained
how to do this!)

Today we had a quick lunch at Jimbo's.
We get these cravings for Cold Kama
age Hosoudon Tempura.

A. demonstrating how to manage
the long noodles.
The owner, Mr. Jimbo, walks around talking to the customers.  He explained to us how hot Kamaage Udon is good for a pick up when you have a cold or are tired.  The iced version is great for hot, humid days.  He makes the udon noodles, then cuts them to make them thinner.  He also told us about the types of soy sauce he uses -  tamari , usukuchi and marudaizu (whole soy beans),  and his new Shrimp Tempura Donburi (rice bowl) sauce.

October recital

Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014
It was another of Craig Shimizu Sensei's successful recitals.
Good lighting, sound, stage decorations, food and well presented
student numbers.  They are always fun (the MC is experienced and humorous and a good singer himself), and interspersed with comical numbers done by seriously talented singers.

I was blessed with a table
full of friends.

Janie and our naginata Sensei on
the right.

The guys.
R and Mel came a little later, and Denise graciously sat at a neighboring table since we were full.

My song, "Byakkotai" is usually
accompanied by Kembu
during the shigin part, but I just did
naginata movements throughout.

During my shigin, I was honored that Sensei did a light version of 'Shihogiri', a ceremonial kata.

Sensei used her 300 year old naginata and wore her black kimono which only those of 8th dan (rank) are allowed to wear.  I, being a mere 3 dan, wore my practice outfit.  Plus a fake ponytail on loan from my nice hairdresser.  I was lucky to be able to use Denise's naginata so my blade glinted as much as Sensei's.

The closing number was "Happy" from Despicable Me, sung by a Minion. Denise, Melinda,  Kalani (far right, half out of the photo)
and I were more than happy to dance to Cheryl's lively singing.

Relaxing at Mariposa
after the program, as
usual.

Poke (King salmon,
hamachi, ahi mix) and a
cold Martini.

Gelato dessert at Nordstrom's Gelato Bar.

Çalories at Manoa SC

Lunch at Paesano in Manoa SC with Linda.
We had such a nice time chatting I forgot to take pics of my salmon salad and her lunch special, shrimp and chicken pasta.
But we didn't forget dessert - the Spumoni!

Can anyone go into Longs (CVC) and come out empty handed?
I followed her and came out with some wine and Quinoa chips!
Well,  tropical storm Ana is approaching and might turn into a hurricane and the news said to stock up.
Also followed her into the Wholesale Snack store and came out with 3 packages of crunchy snacks.
And, well, Fendu was right there and their Blueberry and Lychee Danishes are delicious.
Our quaterly checkup of the AC system this morning revealed that a whatchamacallit needed to be replaced, so now we have our cool air back.

Pineapple Room, Penny

Went to the Pineapple Room at 4 for  a drink and had the Tomato, Watermelon and goat cheese salad.  R had the ahi sandwich, both from the lunch menu.
Must try to make the salad, but I would probably not use the li hing powder.
I miss not having their burger and fries, but the salad was completely satisfying with less calories.

This poster by our table announces a two week tour to Hawaii for $399 in 1973 from the mainland.
Had to put in Penny pics.

Doxies don't let their tongues
hang out, but she forgot to pull
in the tip for a while.

Early pupus at MW

MW's conveniently has a Happy
Hour from 2 to 5 pm.
Everything on the pupu menu is $5.00.

Open kitchen.
Fried okra

Pressed chicken with kim chee (from
the dinner appetizer menu)

Pork Bao.
All tasty and more than
enough for the
both of us.

The fried doughnuts in a
package dessert.  The dinner menu
doughnuts come on a plate, drizzled
with chocolate, which is too heavy
I think.

Valet service from 4 pm.  MW has its green sticker.

Uncle's fish and chips, grave visit

Had a craving for Uncle's
Fish and Chips (thanks
to Denise!)

Love the photos of the old
fishermen in their kimonos.

It's not the beer battered type but still crispily breaded.  Shrimp, mahimahi , calamari and coleslaw.  Today's fries were a little soggier than usual, but still good.

On the way to the Memorial
Park to make sure Gpa's grave is
clean for the expected visitors
from Japan.

The lawn was mowed, but the  grass cuttings were brown and left on the grave stone.  The manager said they will go tomorrow with maintenance to check although we trimmed and raked it today.
 Penny waited patiently in the
car.  Good girl.

Prince Hotel's Hakone

P and M took us to Hakone
at the Prince Hotel for R's birthday.

It's been a while since we last ate
here but the waitress remembered.

Sushi bar was fresh with a pretty good variety including kazunoko and negitoro.
The buffet serving dishes look small, but they keep refreshing the them so everything's fresh.
There were many, many offerings (salads, shabu shabu, katsu, crab legs, sukiyaki, curry..) so my dinner choices look meager.
A good buffet is always wasted on me.

The sunset view behind us.

Dessert table included zenzai, odango, fruit mitsumame, as well as Western type desserts.
