Evening at Herringbone

Herringbone in the International Market Place, Waikiki.
It's a sister restaurant of the flagship Herringbone in La Jolla, California, specializing in Southern California Coastal dining, and it just opened  August 2nd.
The bar area at the entrance was noisy and busy with people enjoying their drinks, but it was a little better in the courtyard area.
The summer menu.
Their oysters and shellfish are very popular, the server said, but unfortunately R is allergic to shellfish.

I ordered the m.p. whole fish which was Onaga with sea salt, lemon and olive oil -  and tender and tasty.  Wish it were a bit more crispy, since it's deep fried.

Tuna tacos and Ray Ray style fries with furikake, tobiko, rooster sauce.

M had the pork chops and squash, which were good, and R had the Onaga with vegetables.

Our server was knowledgable, friendly and attentive, considering the restaurant has been open less than a month.

My dessert was Cookies and Milk, or horchata with macadamia nut and white chocolate  chip cookies.

And a nice Cappuccino .

Outside, looking down there was hula entertainment.

Comic Con, Birthday party

Sunday morning at the Comic Con!
Yes, me.
Held at the Convention Center in Ala Moana  for three days.
We didn't get to see William Shatner, Ray Park, Alan Tudyk, Chris Claremont and Keven Eastman, but it was
fun to see people dressed in their favorite characters.
In the lobby was an impressive group of elves from Lord of the Rings and a character from Game of Thrones, I'm told.
Wish I had a better camera.
Inside, people were lined up to get their photo taken with
very authentic looking Star Wars characters.

I was told this group has very strict rules about costumes being authentic and well done.

I'm not sure what you could do here..maybe paint your own helmet?

There also was a line to sit on this throne.

This girl was so cute with her little robot.

                                         GENE'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
Later Sunday Afternoon, there was a party            for Gene downstairs in the recreation area of our condo.

Gene contemplating how to cut his cake.

Never one to do the expected, he gave it a nice stab, leaving the cutting of the delicious Lemon Crunch Cake from Aiea Bowl to his wife.  (There is a faction of cake eaters in Hawaii that says the Lemon Crunch from Diamond Head Bakery is better.)
This one was absolutely delicious!

Have another happy and productive year, Gene.

What a delicious and happy party it was!
