Thursday mini drive

It was such a beautiful trade wind day, we drove to Kahala Petland to look for a seatbelt harness for Penny.

Despite her barking, she attracted some nice people who were willing to talk to her.

A short drive to Kahala Beach Park, which was popular as usual.

Posing under the sign that says no animals.

Enjoying the ocean breeze.
Four p.m. was still a bit sunny and hot.

All that salt breeze and sunshine whets the appetite.
Here is Diamonhead Market and Grill!

Waiting for our order.
I went into the Market to check out their delicious desserts.

Chicken Breast with dried fruit mustard.

Grilled salmon.

Their famous Lemon Crunch Cake.
I heard it has competition from Aiea Bowl's famous Lemon Crunch Cake.  Must try!!

Torae Torae

After visiting the City Satellite at the Mall, we stopped at Shirokiya to have some koori, Japanese shaved ice.
Strange looking azuki bean ice.

Decided to try Izakaya Torae Torae on McCully St. between Beretania and Young streets.
A newly opened place, Mel highly recommended it.

Small but nice interior, it was not too crowded because it had just opened at 6 pm.

Sushi bar, manned by Chef Hide Yoshimoto,  formerly of Doraku.
I asked the friendly server what Torae meant and she thought it was "catch"

The Hamachi Carpaccio was so good it disappeared before I had a chance to take a decent photo.
Also had vegetable tempura, nigiri (serving is one, instead of two pieces), pork kakuni.

Gochisosama.

Anytime Cafe

Killing time at the Mall while R is at the dentist.  Taro plants and water lilies.

Lunch at the Anytime Cafe at Market City SC.
We were looking forward to Yakiniku Seoul but they were closed for cleaning.

There's Doraemon?
First time for me here,  and we had a fun time catching up.  Nice waiter refilled our coffees and water glasses many times.

I tried the tomato,  basil and mozzarella spaghetti.

Lasagna for L

Pat had the pork chops with lemon cream sauce.
What a varied menu.  From eggs and French Toast with peanut butter, to Chinese noodles. Anytime ok.

Filipino dessert KaloKalo

Penny's Memorial Day

We didn't take Penny to her Obedience Class yesterday because there was a Flash Flood Warning. We have been practicing her sit, down, stay and heel basics everyday with treats and she's good at it.  Stubborn as she is, she will not do it at the park during her class, though.

                                     Penny's Memorial Day
Not another photo shoot.

                                                  What?
A drive to Hawaii Kai PetCo to buy my favorite treats?

Pretty scenery along the way.

We found lots of her favorite  Naturo Peanut Butter crunch treats here.  PetCo Beretania was all out.
At present, these are the only treats she'll eat.

A stop at Aina Haina MacDonald's for the dipped cones.

No chocolate for Penny.

Penny under the weather

Here's Penny at the Vet's office again.  This time it may be a digestive problem.
She still likes to play and her nose is cold, but her stool is very soft and she threw up once over a span of two days.  No appetite and lethargic, except for those play times.
So she has meds for nausea, and antibacterial pills and we'll get results from the lab in a couple of days.

Hula, Jimbos, dipped cone

Here is Denise dancing at the Aviation Museum for a friend's wedding on Saturday.  So graceful.

After Zumba lunch at Jimbo's.
We came here because of the iced Hosoudon tempura.

We chatted a lot but the nice girl who waited on us just kept refilling our water without rushing us out.

Kathy told me that the dipped cone has returned to MacDonalds!
So after dinner we grabbed the dog...

Extra napkins please.
I don't know what this is.
Yet.

Spring recital

the recital that had seemed so far into the future is over!

Casbah no Onna
Trying hard to be a woman who
works in a bar in the Casbah

With friends like
Denise and Jay, even a
stressful event like singing
before 300 people can
be fun.  Encouragement and
thoughtful helpfulness go a
long way.  Thank you.

Ghost Riders in the Sky.
The audience appreciated
the lively song
Thank you for the leis.

After a little rest, R and I celebrated at Mariposa's Afternoon Service since we were still full after the big lunch.
Light supper of the Mariposa Poke over brown rice.
(And a Martini)
I learned more things about stage makeup and dress thanks to Denise and Colette.   It's so good to talk with and watch the more experienced students perform.  Hopefully we will be less nervous as we progress.

And above all, thanks to Craig Sensei for always putting on a super recital.
