Pudgie

Now it's Pudgie, the lovebird's turn for a vet visit!

He again started pulling his feathers around the tail area, enough to draw blood.  Steve at Chez Kenzo mentioned this Clinic because he saw a few birds in cages when he took his pets there.  So I called and made an appointment with the vet who takes care of birds.
The Pet Clinic on Beretania St. was where my mom took her Pomeranian for check ups when I was still in my teens.
Dr. Roy Harada, her vet, has passed away but his son, Dr. Craig Harada, who used to help him then, is now Pudgie's doctor.

I remember this office with its little courtyard.
It's so nice to return after over 40 odd years.

Minamoto Kitchoan with Boy's Day decoration.

We tried Shokudo again after over  a year.

The teriyaki salmon

The waiter recommended this dessert, their specialty, honey bread with ice cream.

Pudgie's new food.
His diet might be responsible for his feather pulling so no more seeds, which the vet said is like snacking on popcorn-tasty but not nutritious.
Walnuts are too oily, but apples are okay.  Poor Pudgie loves walnuts.

His meds.
The spray should ease the itching by his tail and the ointment will help his feet.
Lovebirds, from east Africa, are usually hard to handle, but Dr. Harada said Pudgie was very friendly.  Pretty good for a 14 yr. old bird.

Healthy Penny

Penny's Vet Dr. Kondo called at 8:30 a.m. to tell us the xrays were normal and she's fine and good enough to go to pet day care.
Still continuing the antibiotics and meds until they run out, though.

After our voice lessons at  Shimizu Voice, and our chores done, we celebrated at Chez Kenzo, which was filled at Happy Hour.
R tried the "Frozen Beer" which is supposed to keep the glass of Asahi beer cold because of the frozen dollop of foam.
Our usual "Ham and Cheese"

Yes!  It rained again in Newtown , Aiea.
Gray skies, sprinkly rain.  Unusual weather, I was told.

No.  That's not Penny but Micky.
Penny, still on antibiotics, but not hacking, stayed in the car with R.

I got the lesson plan and stayed until they broke into little groups.

Onward to the driving range down the road.

Not crowded and lots of flowers.

And breakfast, too.
Only $4.95 for French Toast that's lightly crispy sugary on the outside, eggs and Portuguese sausage.

$5.95 for scrambled eggs on cabbage, Portuguese sausage, mac salad and rice.

R practiced chipping..

while Penny explored the bamboo on the grounds.
Mostly she slept.

Poor Penny

We had to take Penny to the Vet this morning because she was hacking and spitting out foamy saliva.
She had found a package of quilt batting and was chewing at it so  we thought the Vet should look at her.

Tried weighing her on the small scale which didn't work so the aide took her to another room.
In the meantime we talked to the doctor.  Her breathing is fine, but they took an xray of her lungs to be sure.  Also gave her antibiotics and pepcid for her stomach and esophagus.
We came home with canned food, antibiotics, meds for her respiratory system.  She weighs 10.2 lbs.

Penny's separation anxiety.
Here she is sitting on her puppy pads at the front door waiting for R to return from our store room downstairs.

She stares and yelps at the door .

Finally,  he returns, she does her happy to see you dance,  and all is well again.

Hi

Hi,
After Zumba at 7 this morning, we had a busy day doing busy stuff, one of which was picking up the dress I had altered (for the recital) at Linda Fujioka's Alterations.

We ended up at Pineapple Room for lunch at 3:30, which will also be dinner.  The hamburger was delicious but filling!  I could only eat half.

Yakiniku Seoul, Penny

After Zumba lunch at Yakiniku Seoul, a short walk from the gym.
My cold buckwheat noodle soup with Kalbi.

Mel's Bibimpap.
Well, we did Zumba, we walked over and we talked for  two and a half hours.   Exercised all parts of the body.

Pets in the City

Maka, the beagle, can jump too.

Eager Penny

On the way home we happened to  be behind Penny's favorite food truck.

Happy Easter! Newtown Park

Went to the CUC's Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. because we have Penny's obedience class at 10:30.
Good morning.

Fifty minutes earlier I had thrown on a sweater and headed out the door in the dark
…passing the wooden white dove from son R.
It was cold and breezy, but
the Sanctuary steps were
welcoming.
Reverend Dr. Scott who
conducted this Communion
Service.
The wild green parrots from Tantalus were whirling and singing around us in the trees, as they do every morning and evening.
Sunrise Cross, which until
this morning was draped
in black cloth.

At breakfast, Pudgie didn't know what to do with Peep, the marshmallow bunny (which is quite good with coffee)

Yesterday at naginata practice,  Kathy (who has two corgis in the earlier advanced classes at Art's Obedience School)  and I were laughing about how soaked we had been in the rain last sunday and how our dogs had reacted.
So Sharon, a naginata student who lives above Newtown Park, kindly called to tell me that it had rained last night and the ground might be muddy.

Penny was not happy.  She couldn't understand why I was pullling and pushing at her to get her to move and sit and turn,  and was barking or facing the wrong way throughout the lesson.
Of great interest to R, was the golf practice range next door.
He will bring his clubs next time.

There is a Korean takeout and tables too.
We had the breakfast eggs.  So good!

Such a pretty park and area.

Easter is coming, Penny's garden, Buddy

Every Eastertime this runner comes out.  Daughter and I each took a side and worked to the center, choosing our own colors.

Completed it for Easter 1999.

R is golfing today so Penny and I set out on a walk around the neighborhood.
Outside we saw good friend Buddy!

Our pet food supply store down the street.   Must see that beautiful cat.

Twice the size of Penny, it just stared at her.   Penny did not bark.

Penny's garden.

Our little condo garden.

Mongolian knife and chopstick set with ram, Bangkok Chef, Boomer

Bringing home the little ram from last night,  brought to mind my other item from Mongolia, a knife and chopstick set that must be very useful when out in the plains.
I can't remember when or where I got it, but possibly at a Mongolian fair in one of the Tokyo department stores.
It has coral colored beads and silver decorations.    The metal of the blade goes all the way to the end of the horn handle.
****

Just to make sure we put back the calories we had lost at Zumba today, El and I met Pat at Manoa's Bangkok Chef for lunch.
Cashew nut chicken, green curry and eggplant sauté.
Pat suggested the green tea tapioca which was refreshing.

Picked up Penny from
Pets in the City.  She
tries to jump over the
gate.

Boomer of the fluffy tail and  Mele barking goodbye.
