Busy morning sky at Ala Moana.
The sun was rising, the moon was setting and there was a double rainbow.

Facing east towards the sunrise over Diamond Head.
I know I'm missing these and other beautiful sights since I stopped going to Ala Moana beach to snorkel in the mornings.

My new necklace.  Now I know who I am.

Bought it for Penny on Granville Island, Vancouver, from this little shop.

Once Upon a Time..

Grade school friends playing dress up.  Carol was a Hoboette,I was Miss PoohBah, and Judy was Lady Buttercup.  (Thanks to Carol's chest of old clothes)
I miss seeing buttercup vines growing in people's yards.  Must be hard to upkeep.  Also miss the Wood Rose vines that grew in Waioli Tea Room's gardens.  I remember making Mother's Day corsages in elementary school using them one year.

These sweet photos of R's sister Liz always make me smile.
She took Japanese dance in Tokyo when she was tiny.

Black Horse lamp Vancouver and Honolulu

I was so happy to see the Black Horse with a lampshade on its head in the lobby lounge of the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver where we stayed for four days after our cruise.

Because I remembered one from Stage Restaurant in Honolulu.
So it was fun to have lunch there today, tuesday, with friend L and see it again.

The Crab Cake was good and my BubuArare King Salmon Salad was too.  Linda said her hamburger was tasty.
We shared a Pineapple crumble a la mode dessert.

Remember the old Shirokiya

When Shirokiya first opened at Ala Moana SC in the early 60's - bird cage and curving staircase too!

Sarentos

                     Happy Anniversary, Denise and Jay
Beautiful sunset views accompanied our
celebration dinner Sunday at Sarentos, Top
of the I.

To many more happy years

Ilikai looks nice now-it's been quite a while.
What an enjoyable, relaxed and delicious dinner it was!

The menu.
I had the three c's - tender and well seasoned chicken, caprese, and calamari.
The others tried the special-pork belly with crispy skin, and double pork chops. All were satisfied.

Once Upon a Time.. Kenbu, Spanish dance, koto

( Photos are from my Intermediate and High School years, a long time ago.)

Tito Cesar's Dance Academy
In our Jota costumes for a dance program.

Such dramatic poses.

Still have those castanets.

Kenbu satisfied my interest in  Japanese history.  We danced with a sword and     fan (kenbu),  or just fan(senbu).   Nagao Sensei sang the shigin, which is a Chinese style poem of a historical occurrence or a scenic description.
A performance at the Consulate with visiting Senbu teachers from Japan (in the brighter hakamas).  I was with the koto group so I had on my kimono.

Article on Nagao, Jundo Sensei's return from Japan after getting his degree from the Shingikan kenbu school and the Shinshinryu school of Shigin.

Our Okoto teacher was Mikami Sensei, who learned from Miyagi Michio, the famous blind koto musician who composed Haru no Umi.

Just for fun.
Our group, Suzurankai, put on a performance for Japanese Culture night at the UH Kennedy Theater.

Ketchikan, Back to Vancouver

Searching for wildlife-in vain.  I wanted to see a moose.  Guess I'll just have to come back.

Could it be an eagle?

No.  A seagull.  But so graceful and pretty.  It rested on the lifeboat for awhile.

The resting room of the Spa/Salon where I got my hair done by an interesting young man from South Africa.

One of the towel creatures by Aziz, our steward.

Off to dinner at the Vista on Formal night.

The Vista Lounge where there were nightly Shows.
Also the meeting place for off shore tours and lectures.

One of the ten bars on board.

Arriving in Ketchikan.

Our only rainy day of the cruise.  There were about 4 cruise ships docked so the town was crowded.  We returned quickly because we had reservations for dinner at the Pinnacle.

It was transformed into Le Cirque of NYC.

There was a class on how to fold these too.

The Northern Lights Lounge where we gathered for the On Deck for a Cause walk.

Six times around!

Sailing back into Vancouver .
