Long awaited spring in Tokyo.
The small, wild flowers are so pretty seen closeup. They have so much energy to be able to spring up after a cold, long winter! Here are the more recognizable ones. Violets and tanpopo (dandelion) |
The much awaited lilies of the valley. Another fragrant flower I regret not having photographed is the jinchoge (daphne odor). |
One of the dogwood trees and the azaleas have begun blooming on their little hill. |
Tsukubai and ishidoro, watering hole for birds, like this one taking a morning sip |
During the winter, grandpa's koi hibernated in their little deep nook at the end of the pond. It would freeze over protecting them. The rest of the pond was drained. |
Karasu (crow) investigating grandma's bed of Hawaiian ginger, which miraculously grew and blossomed every summer. |
The neighbor's cat checking out the empty koi pond, which was a problem during the rest of the year when it was filled and the koi were swimming around.
During summers we got to enjoy Hawaii grandma and grandpa's little garden. |
Enjoying clean, green air was almost impossible in Tokyo. We would look forward to picking and eating acerola berries, pumpkin cherries, mountain apples and strawberry guava fruit.
Thank you to grandmas and grandpas on both sides for letting us enjoy and appreciate nature in your gardens. |
