In Japan you can buy the traditional seven herbs in sets, or substitute your own vegetables/herbs. Chop them and cook them with rice and stock to make a hot porridge which is soothing to the stomach.
In Hawaii today, I substituted so much, it can no longer be called nanakusagayu except in intent.
Kabu, daikon, spinach and watercress soup. I just used mochi instead of rice. But it was soothing. We felt a little sad that poor Penny was resting at the veterinary clinic after a procedure in which she was spayed and had her stubborn baby teeth removed. We pick her up tomorrow. But we went to Signature on the top of Ala Moana Hotel for dinner with friends. |
